What does Region Free review?
Region Free is a pop culture and technology site, which means I review films, series, games, physical media, and gadgets.
With films, the reviews are sorted into theatrical, festival, streaming, and physical media releases. While I sometimes review short films, these reviews are unscored and sorted into the festivals they premiere at.
Series are reviewed from all streaming providers. Every review indicates how many episodes were screened for review, though I always strive to see the full season first.
Games are reviewed on the following platforms: PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X, iPhone, Android, and PC. I also cover VR titles with the Meta Quest 3 and the PSVR2.
Gadgets are reviewed on long-term basis, usually two weeks to a month at a minimum. This provides ample time to find out how the product handles daily life. If the review gear stays with me, it is listed in the review. I do not provide early access or editorial approval to review subjects.
Sponsored posts are clearly marked in their own section.
I do not cover AI-generated films, series, or games.
Review Benchmarks
The main purpose of reviews on Region Free is to provide an idea of how a neurodivergent person games, watches films, and uses technology. The reviews focus on practicality and accessibility to provide a ground-level understanding for those who aren't looking for information on terapixels and the like.
Scoring
Region Free rates everything on a 1 to 5 star scale with no half-stars or decimals. The ratings should be read as follows:
★ - Riddled with so many faults and compromises or such questionable content that it can't be recommended in good conscience to anyone.
★★ - Problematic and with faults, but potentially interesting to devoted fans or those willing to endure issues out of brand loyalty.
★★★ - Solid, if not inspiring. A perfectly acceptable and usually entirely commendable score that most films, games, and products fall into.
★★★★ - Exceptional and easily recommended, only slightly missing the mark out of perfection due to minor issues.
★★★★★ - As perfect as possible with only the most infinitesimal problems that can be overlooked for how well everything else works.
