Ten Films I'm Most Excited to See at Fantasia Festival 2025
Fantasia Festival 2025 has a packed lineup of excellent genre films. Here are ten of them which I wouldn't miss this year.
Osiris is pulpy and charming sci-fi action romp
★★★ | Too long and sluggishly paced, Osiris is nonetheless a surprisingly inventive and charming sci-fi-actioner worthy of a Friday night rental.
Poker Face Season 2 continues the winning streak
★★★★★ | Rian Johnson's winning series returns with another banger of a season.
Superman is the essential summer blockbuster
★★★★★ | Bravely redefining the epic hero for the modern era, James Gunn reinvents Superman by reminding us of the politics and aspirational qualities of The Man of Steel.
Turtle Beach Airlite Fit are solid bang for the buck headphones
★★★ | They won't set the world on fire, but the Airlite Fit's are perfect for kids and those who just want a solid pair of headphones without breaking the bank.
4K Blu-ray Review: The Monkey
This oddball horror comedy is an acquired taste and the pristine 4K is solid, if unremarkable. For fans only.
Sandman Season 2 is yet another perfect adaptation of a story that's complicated to love
★★★★★ | Sandman Season 2 is yet another pitch-perfect adaptation of a classic graphic novel. If only Gaiman's ugly shadow didn't loom so heavily over it.
4K Blu-ray Review: Lethal Weapon
Lethal Weapon hasn't aged exactly gracefully, but there's still a lot to love in its rough charm, especially as the 4K release is superlative.
Nintendo Switch 2 Review: bigger and better – to a degree
★★★★ | The Switch 2 is a marked improvement over the first generation, but it comes with some caveats of its own.
Mario Kart World is a massive leap for the franchise
★★★★★ | Review: Mario Kart World re-imagines the iconic franchise into something familiar and wildly new. The result is a definitive racer for the new generation, one that might be enough to sell the new system on its own.
28 Years Later revives, but doesn't redefine, the zombie genre
★★★ | Danny Boyle's return to his beloved horror vision is a big swing that mostly connects, even if it's uncertain what it wants to say.
